Rockwell Automation announces its plans for support of the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system on all new Rockwell Software products

Rockwell Automation announces its plans for support of the Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system on all new Rockwell Software products, ensuring that Rockwell Software customers who use the Windows 2000 platform, will be able to take advantage of its latest technologies "As one of the first manufacturing software company's to show that it's Windows 2000 Ready, Rockwell Software's mission is to leverage emerging software technologies to enhance our customer's business performance," said Rich Ryan, president, Rockwell Software

"We believe that Microsoft Windows 2000 represents a major milestone in software technology that we intend to fully utilise." All new Rockwell Software products will either be Windows 2000 Ready or Windows 2000 Certified.

To be considered Windows 2000 Ready, applications must run on Windows 2000, but do not necessarily take advantage of the new operating system features.

To be Windows 2000 Certified, applications must take advantage of Windows 2000 reliability and manageability features and meet the appropriate Microsoft Windows 2000 Application Specification.

An independent testing body, VeriTest Labs, runs the "Certified for Windows" Windows 2000 certification testing laboratory.

Vendors must pass the test requirements to receive certification.

As part of this initiative, all new Rockwell Software products were made Windows 2000 Ready during January 2000 and all products will be Windows 2000 Certified by June 2000.

The first Rockwell Software product to be Windows 2000 Certified is RSView32.

Rockwell Software put a high priority on RSView32, because of its ability to take full advantage of the benefits of Windows 2000.

Other key products such as RSLinx, RSLogix and RSSql are among those that will be certified later in the year.

Windows 2000 combines the ease of use of Windows 98 with the traditional strengths of Windows NT, to provide an operating system with higher levels of security, reliability and performance.

For current Rockwell Software customers using 32-bit software applications, the migration to Windows 2000 will bring many benefits.

- The Windows 2000 Active Directory maintains a list of network "resources" including user accounts, computers and printers to support connectivity among server and desktop applications.

The directory also provides a single point for network maintenance and administration.

- Certified applications maintain user preferences, support multiple users per PC and regenerate application settings.

Users can access their own files from any location on the network, allowing multiple users to have individual profiles on a single PC.

- Internal system refinements enhance reliability by decreasing fault conditions and system uptime is increased by reducing hardware and software changes requiring restart of the system.

- Security options allow administrators to optimise and control user access.

Accessibility standards help reduce support and training costs.

- A self-repairing installation helps improve interoperation with other applications so users do not have to maintain application components.

Rockwell Software and Microsoft are business partners and many of the Microsoft software technologies are used within its software products.

The new technologies embedded within the Windows 2000 operating system provide Rockwell Software with an opportunity to further enhance its market leading suite of manufacturing software products. Request free introductory details about products from Rockwell Automation ...
