Rockwell Automation introduces the RAC6182, the first Allen-Bradley Industrial Computer designed specifically for the Microsoft Windows CE operating system.
Rockwell Automation introduces the RAC6182, the first Allen-Bradley Industrial Computer designed specifically for the Microsoft Windows CE operating system It is ideal for OEMs and end-users involved with the development of powerful and scalable HMI solutions for the factory floor
The RAC6182 delivers a solution that supports HMI, soft control, programming, information management and remote terminal applications.
More than one of these applications can be executed simultaneously.
"The RAC6182 provides a new level of open computing on the factory floor", says Paul Herron, product manager, Industrial Computer Business, Rockwell Automation.
"As well as running standard industrial software applications, a software developer's toolkit will assist developers in creating custom C++ or Visual Basic applications to run on the Windows CE platform".
Herron continues, "The RAC6182 represents an important element of our future visualisation strategy.
This strategy will focus on bridging the gap between machine-level operator interface devices and supervisory- level human-machine interface solutions".
The RAC6182 is a family of high specification industrial computers with 12-inch TFT or 7.7-inch STN LCD flat panel displays and a non-display option, providing flexibility and choice for the user.
The 12-inch display features a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels to maximize screen clarity and brightness, while the 7.7-inch display is a colour LCD with 640 x 480 resolution.
A resistive analogue touch-screen is also available.
The non-display RAC6182 can perform the same tasks as the 12 and 7.7-inch versions using an external monitor, touch screen and keyboard.
It can also be used as a stand-alone control or data collection engine.
All RAC6182 computers are designed for use in factory control systems.
They can interface to PLC-based, motion control and motor drive control systems, providing a HMI and information collection mechanism.
They can also serve as the hardware platform for a soft-control implementation, running the control algorithms as well as providing operator interface and data management functions.
Operating on a RISC-based, MIPS 225 MHz processor, the RAC6182 is designed for fast boot-up and command execution.
It is supplied with Windows CE 2.12 pre-installed and can also simultaneously run MachineView CE, SoftLogix CE and RSPocketLogix.
Standard I/O ports include two USB, two PS/2 (external keyboard and mouse), two high-speed serial, one parallel, built-in 10/100BaseT Ethernet, two PC Card (PCMCIA) slots, and an add-in PCI card slot.
The add-in PCI card provides support for a wide variety of industrial control networks.
As with all Allen-Bradley RAC6000 series industrial computers, the RAC6182 is designed to resist shock, vibration, dirt, high-pressure jets and extreme temperatures found in harsh environments.
It has an IP65 rating and an operating temperature range of 0 to +50øC.
The Allen-Bradley RAC6182 is a rugged and reliable industrial computer, able to take advantage of the benefits of the Windows CE operating environment and providing end-users and OEMs with the power and flexibility to meet a range of application needs.
