New training services in industrial automation

A Rockwell Automation product story

Rockwell Automation provides a full range of skills audit and training services, covering industrial automation, manufacturing software and control systems

Investment in efficient manufacturing systems and software may not yield its full value if engineers, operators and maintenance staff are not fully trained.

To address this issue, Rockwell Automation provides a full range of skills audit and training services, covering industrial automation, manufacturing software and control systems.

Training can take place at fully-equipped training centres in Milton Keynes and Sutton Coldfield, or at customers' own sites.

Professionally delivered, structured training can improve the utilisation and performance of installed systems, and reduce companies' dependence on maintenance contractors.

The first step is to identify an organisation's training requirements, and for this Rockwell Automation offers Training Needs Analysis (TNA).

This involves an audit of current skill levels and highlights any shortcomings before suggesting the most appropriate training courses.

A new service to be introduced shortly, the Associated Skills and Knowledge (ASK) programme, will build on TNA by carrying out an assessment of installed systems and their intended applications.

The results are then used in conjunction with the TNA to develop a detailed programme of work modules and class training to ensure that systems are being fully utilised and the return on these assets maximised.

Rockwell Automation is best known for its comprehensive range of industrial control systems and manufacturing software, and is able to offer full training support and back up for personnel working with these products.

But its detailed knowledge and long experience of manufacturing industry means its training services are not limited to its own product range.

The company's newly-published UK Training Schedule lists a wide range of training courses, covering topics such as power and energy management, open communications networks, drives, PLCs, HMIs, software, motion control and maintenance.

The recent acquisition of condition-based monitoring specialist Entek has enabled Rockwell Automation to expand its training programme to include up-to-date techniques such as plant asset management, predictive maintenance routines and vibration analysis.

As a Microsoft Development Partner, it is also able to offer training focused on the application of Microsoft products such as Windows NT, BackOffice and SQL Server in the industrial environment.

In addition to the programme offered at Rockwell Automation's own centres, customers can request customised training courses to meet their specific requirements.

It has also teamed with a number of local providers around the country, to offer training of the highest standard at local colleges of further education.

Many of these courses are third party accredited by BTEC or NCVQ and lead to nationally recognised qualifications.

To enable individuals to test their own knowledge of new and existing Rockwell Automation products and systems, the company is about to introduce a new web-based appraisal system.

This will allow visitors to the website to identify skill gaps that need to be addressed before a new system or item of equipment is installed.

For individuals requiring more than one training course in a 12-month period, Rockwell Automation has introduced Training Passes.

The Bronze Pass provides an entitlement to 10 days training, the Silver Pass to 15 days, and the Gold Pass provides unlimited training for one year.

The Passes simplify booking, provide maximum flexibility and offer substantial savings on the cost of training.

In today's ultra-competitive market, manufacturers need to maximise returns on their assets to optimise financial performance.

Effective training ensures that key resources, including plant and personnel, function to their full potential.
