Rockwell Automation has enhanced the popular Allen-Bradley B160 range of three-phase AC variable speed drives with the introduction of the IP65-rated B160Z.

Housed in an integral enclosure, the B160Z meets the requirements of OEMs and manufacturers for a robust, high performance, three phase drive which can be mounted adjacent to or on the motor without the need for a cabinet or other protection.

Designed for wall or machine mounting using the blank mounting plate, the drive can also be fixed directly to a wide range of motor types and sizes by means an adaptor plate.

Operating at voltages of 200 to 240V and 380 to 460V and available in power ratings from 0.37 to 4kW, the B160Z is ideal for conveying and similar applications requiring reliable motor speed control in frequently washed down production areas.

To further increase its flexibility, the drive is available with four communication network options: DeviceNet, RS232C, Profibus-DP and Interbus.

When used with DeviceNet, the B160Z shares the advantages of added functionality, such as automatic device replacement, offered by the rest of the Allen-Bradley range.

The B160Z can be supplied ready mounted on a range of compatible AC motors or retrofitted in most existing installations.

It is able to work with motors from a wide range of vendors, giving users maximum flexibility.

A selection of adapter plates for wall or flange mounting is available to match almost every application.

Configuration of the B160Z is equally straightforward, using a remote keypad module, with a CopyCat keypad module or via software across a network.

The remote keypad module is rated to IP65 and can be used in place of separate panel-attached control inputs, reducing installation and start-up time and minimising control wiring.

Alternatively, the CopyCat keypad module simplifies programming by providing a handheld interface for parameter upload and download.

Other features of the B160Z AC drive include fault history for performing system diagnostics, an elapsed time meter indicating the hours and power cycles the drive has operated, feedback on specific drive and load conditions, programmable external dynamic braking and improved I/O response time.

The B160Z shares the features and benefits of other drives in the Allen-Bradley B160 range, including highly energy efficient operation, compact size, accurate speed control, reliability and long service life.

With the addition of an IP65-rated option, OEMs and other users now have the ultimate in convenience and performance when it comes to motor speed control in washdown areas.
