Improved motor protection from intelligent relays
The popular Allen-Bradley 193-E3 range of intelligent motor protection relays has been enhanced with a number of new features.
The popular Allen-Bradley 193-E3 range of intelligent motor protection relays has been enhanced with a number of new features.
The new-generation units are suitable for fractional-kilowatt-rated motors, have a dedicated local electrical reset circuit and are suitable for use with motors rated up to 5kA.
All feature the powerful monitoring and diagnostic functions provided by the built in DeviceNet interface.
The current rating of the range has also been expanded at both ends.
At the lower end, a new unit has been introduced with an adjustment range from 0.4 to 2.0A making it suitable for use with fractional kilowatt motors.
At the top end, for currents in excess of 90A, a new current transformer rating parameter of 5000:5 allows the unit to be used with an external primary current transformer.
This increases the maximum current rating to 5kA For applications that need the added security of a local reset facility, a new, dedicated remote reset push button circuit allows this to be achieved by using a conventional pushbutton mounted on the front of the panel.
The Allen-Bradley 193-E3 series of electronic motor protection relays has been widely specified by panel builders and control engineers across a range of industries.
Both users and installers have been quick to appreciate the power and flexibility of the new devices.
They offer preventive maintenance tools, diagnostic capabilities and built in DeviceNet connectivity.
This makes them particularly suitable for applications in industries such as the utilities, food and beverage, steel manufacture.
The compact dimensions of the new 193-E3 unit makes it ideal for refurbishment work since it is much smaller than the units it traditionally replaces.
With its powerful monitoring and diagnostics it is also ideal for new, intelligent motor control centres and de-centralised solutions.
For a small additional investment, the 193-E3 provides a high level of information and control for process critical motors.
The protection characteristics of the E3 range include thermal overload, phase loss, stall, jam, underload and current imbalance.
They are fully programmable to safely allow maximum usage of the motor.
Warning settings allow the installer to implement a preventative protection program.
The device alerts production personnel when a potential fault condition is detected, prior to tripping.
This gives the operator time to address a situation before the motor goes offline, maximising production and minimising downtime.
The built-in DeviceNet port allows users to access status information and data including device, trip and warning status, time to trip/time to reset (overload), online current monitoring and history of the past five trips.
By incorporating this broad functionality into a single, compact device, the 193-E3 relays help to optimise panel space, reduce installation and startup time and simplify troubleshooting.
Now, with the increased operating range and the added flexibility of the local reset circuit, the Allen-Bradley 193-E3 is the ideal solution for protecting an even wider range of process-critical motors.
