Drives help keep the presses running
A new electronic line shaft solution using standard Allen-Bradley PowerFlex 700S AC drives helps reduce press downtime allowing the printing industry to maximise automation investments.
Passport to safety
In today's marketplace, you have to think globally: that is where functional safety can help.
The PowerFlex 700S (0.37 to 110kW at 400V), is the latest addition to the PowerFlex family, a comprehensive line of AC drives for motor control ranging from 0.25 to 6700kW.
The PowerFlex 700S can include the DriveLogix embedded control option, which incorporates the innovative Allen-Bradley Logix control engine into the high-performance PowerFlex drive for application programmability and control of auxiliary functions in a single package.
The drive can operate as a stand-alone device, communicating to a central controller, or as an intelligent drive and controller combination in a fully distributed architecture, eliminating the need for an external controller.

Low-cost gantries provide rapid motion
Rockwell Automation's Hercules low-cost gantries provide the rapid point-to-point motion common in the electronics/general assembly industries.
Small servo drives maintain high precision
The modular design of the Kinetix servo drives helps minimise wiring time and related costs by greatly reducing the total number of connections.
The PowerFlex 700S with the DriveLogix option utilises the same programming environment and languages supported by all Logix platforms.
With the first embedded drive control solution using an industry-standard PLC, the drive can help manufacturers reduce training, installation and implementation costs, while maintaining high levels of performance and reliability.
The PowerFlex 700S contains selectable, high-performance motor control algorithms utilising Allen-Bradley Force Technology for closed loop or sensorless operation.
This allows the drive to control either standard induction or servomotors, giving users the flexibility to drive multiple motor types with a single product.
Unlike other drives, the PowerFlex 700S can accept multiple feedback devices ranging from standard to high-resolution encoders and resolvers.
For applications from simple indexing to complex electronic line shaft configurations, the PowerFlex 700S features a built-in position regulator for precise machine control and accurate positioning.
In addition, the drive uses SynchLink, a high-speed, drive-to-drive fibre-optic data link, which transmits synchronised drive and application data for multiple machine sections.
With SynchLink, the PowerFlex 700S synchronises connected devices within microseconds, providing the highest level of drive co-ordination available.
As part of the PowerFlex family of drives, the PowerFlex 700S optimises panel space with a bookshelf design that allows Zero Stacking or side-by-side mounting.
The bookshelf design contains proven noise and voltage suppression characteristics, eliminating the need for external or motor-mounted filters.
This design, combined with other space-saving features of the PowerFlex family and the embedded Logix controller of the PowerFlex 700S, optimises installation by providing a powerful drive and control solution in a single, compact package. Request a free brochure from Rockwell Automation ...
