Bright idea in touch display modules
Rockwell Automation has added a 12in high-brightness touch display modules to its Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus operator interface and VersaView CE industrial computer families.
Rockwell Automation has added a 12in high-brightness touch display modules to its Allen-Bradley PanelView Plus operator interface and VersaView CE industrial computer families Designed for easier reading in brightly lit locations, they are also tough enough to withstand harsh, outdoor environments

The high-bright modules have displays that are three times brighter than the standard touch displays, making them ideal in light-intensive outdoor applications such as those often found in the entertainment, water and wastewater and petrochemical industries.
Typical applications could include road tanker loading stations, rides at theme parks and control systems found on the decks of cruise liners and other ships.
"On bright days, operators can find it difficult to read a display outdoors, and may misread the information, adding time to the process, reducing productivity and raising the possibility of errors", said Paul Herron, Product Manager at Rockwell Automation.
"The high-bright touch modules address this issue with displays that have a light intensity rating adjustable up to 1100cd/m2, considerably higher than the indoor-rated display's maximum brightness of 300cd/m2".
Designed and tested to withstand the harsh effects of weather and ultraviolet light, and backlight-rated at 50kh, the high-brightness modules last outdoors just as long as a typical indoor HMI installation.
Rockwell Automation also offers an optional stainless steel solar visor that fits over the bezel.
The solar visor helps shade the display, making it even easier to read outdoors and reducing the heating effect of sunlight in extreme ambient temperatures.
The new 12in high-brightness module - the first from Rockwell Automation - is interchangeable with existing PanelView Plus and VersaView displays, and overcomes the common problem of reading displays outdoors or in other brightly-lit locations.
