A Rockwell Automation product story

The CompactLogix-based solution uses the Virtual Master Feature, which enables users to create a 'perfect' profile that is then adopted by both axes

A UK-based packaging machine manufacturer has used technology from Rockwell Automation to address the North American market and increase the performance of its machines.

Compact Machine Solutions is a suite of integrated products including the Allen-Bradley CompactLogix controller family, PanelView Plus HMI terminals, Point I/O modules and PowerFlex 40 drives, all connected on a single industry standard communication network, such as EtherNet/IP.

A number of other Rockwell Automation supplied enhancements were added.

These included a Kinetix6000 multiaxis servo drive, MPL servomotors and safety components.

The previous system had been tuned over the last few years and was offering a maximum throughput of 300 cycles/minute.

Within 14 days of the Rockwell Automation hardware being installed, this figure was up to cycles/minute and within thirty days it was up to 475 cycles/minute, an increase of nearly 60%.

The CompactLogix-based solution uses the Virtual Master Feature, which enables users to create a 'perfect' profile that is then adopted by both axes, avoiding the negative effects of a master/slave design approach.

Compact Machine Solution can reduce time to market, allow the re-use of programming code and has built-in diagnostic and remote access capabilities, saving users both time and money.
