Universal Robot features six axes of movement

A RA Rodriguez product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 10, 2009

R A Rodriguez has introduced the Universal Robot, a small light-weight industrial robot arm that has six axes of movement.

A specially developed graphical user interface removes the need for expert programming.

It operates from a standard 240V electrical supply.

The Universal Robot weighs just 18kg, meaning it moves around easily and requires no dedicated base.

As a result it can automate a variety of tasks in the production environment, for which reprogramming is quickly achieved via a 12in touch-sensitive screen.

It has a working radius of 85cm, can handle a payload of 5kg and its joints can rotate at up to 180 degrees a second; repeatability is accurate to +/-0.1mm.

The Universal Robot consumes little power, typically less than 200W when using an average programme.

It also generates much less noise than larger, more complex robots.

The Universal Robot has a footprint of just 149mm diameter and is supplied with an electrical interface that is compatible with most industrial sensors and PLCs.
