Geo Robson and Co has appointed Tecgates as its marketing agent in Malaysia, joining an international sales network including newly appointed agents in Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, the UAE and Greece

UK-based industrial handling specialist Geo Robson and Co has appointed Tecgates as its marketing agent in Malaysia.

Based near Kuala Lumpur, Tecgates has more than ten years' experience of engineering for the country's port, airport, cement, glass and timber industries.

Although cement bulk handling projects are Robson's principal interest, the company will also pursue suitable opportunities in other areas of manufacturing.

The two companies will work in partnership, with Robson developing designs for handling systems and building critical plant while Tecgates manages local manufacture of other equipment and sources proprietary items.

Installation will also be by local labour, overseen by Tecgates and resident Robson supervisors.

"We think this kind of partnering is essential for British engineering companies working overseas," said Robson sales and marketing director Mark Hardwick "In fact, we are already using the idea on projects in Europe and the Middle East.

"As well as helping the supplier to be cost effective, manufacturing in the country where the equipment will be installed generates goodwill with the customer by boosting local employment opportunities." Tecgates joins an international sales network including newly appointed agents in Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates and Greece, as Robson steps up its drive for more export business.

Past projects have taken the company as far afield as Africa, India and Hong Kong.
