ATEX stands for Atmospheres Explosives which was introduced by the EU in July 2003.
A British Standard, EN13463-1:2001, covering nonelectrical equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres was introduced in the UK to match it.
Renold Gears' products have been classified in Group II, Category 2, for use in environments where there is potentially explosive gas, vapour, or air and dust mixtures.
