Actuation market leader Rotork announces the introduction of the next generation of intelligent valve actuation.

The latest Rotork IQ electric actuator has evolved from the existing 'industry standard' pedigree to bring the benefits of the 21st century digital age to valve actuation and control on a global scale Retaining all the innovative features of the original non-intrusive IQ valve actuator, the new IQ is restyled and re-engineered with a host of new features to meet even more demanding conditions

Rationalised electronics, replacing separate components with Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) technology to further improve reliability, support powerful new standard diagnostic and communication features that usher in a new age of user-friendliness.

Every IQ actuator is now fitted with a data logger that stores historical operating information, activity and output torque profiles.

This information, as well as commissioning settings, valve position and status, is stored permanently, even during periods of mains power failure.

Rotork's exclusive infra-red commissioning and interrogation system, working with new IQ-Insight software, enables this data to be accessed and analysed locally or, via IrDA communication, directly by the Rotork Customer Lifetime Care Facility.

The Customer Lifetime Care Facility allows Rotork support to be immediately in-hand, in any part of the world, meaning that for the first time in valve actuation the remoteness of the installation has no detrimental effect on the quality and speed of customer support available directly from the manufacturer.

Secure, non-intrusive 'point and shoot' actuator commissioning can be performed with the power disconnected from the new IQ, which is now available for three-phase, single-phase or d.c.

motor operation.

For optimum environmental security the actuator is manufactured with a marine grade LM20 aluminium double-sealed watertight enclosure, ensuring that internal electrical and electronic components are permanently protected, even during periods of complete submersion.

The user- friendly actuator indicator/help screen has been improved with an increased menu of easy-to-read icons on display, even without mains power.

The new IQ actuator is fully compatible with Rotork Pakscan 2-wire fieldbus control and supervisory systems or can be specified for direct communication with contemporary proprietary protocols including Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus and Modbus.

Summarising the new IQ actuator's improvements, Rotork Marketing Director Ron Court says: "The new IQ combines more than 40 years of Rotork's traditional rugged mechanical simplicity with the minimal component count facilitated by advanced technology, providing new levels of reliability, flexibility and installed economy.

"The advent of the on-line link to the Rotork Customer Lifetime Care Facility means that for the first time assistance is readily available to end-users everywhere - only a phone call away - in a way which transcends the frailty of language.

At Rotork we believe that this is an irresistible combination, maintaining and improving the market- leading standards of quality and service available from the world's largest independent valve actuator manufacturer.".
