Rotork's Canadian subsidiary company has been awarded a contract by Alberta based Syncrude Canada to supply electric and pneumatic valve actuators throughout an $8 billion capital investment project known as Syncrude 21.

Plant start up is planned for 2004 and will increase production by more than 100,000 barrels a day.

Rotork's scope of supply includes the latest IQ intelligent electric actuators together with linear and quarter-turn pneumatic actuators.

The actuators will be packaged with control components and mounted onto valves at Rotork's Centre of Excellence at Calgary.

This important contract follows similar large-scale valve-actuation orders awarded to Rotork for other major oil sands development projects in Alberta.

Rotork's electric and fluid power actuators have been specified throughout the Mahkeses Project at Cold Lake, involving a new 30,000 barrel per day production plant and 170MW cogeneration station, and the Athabasca Oil Sands Project, involving a new 155,000 barrels per day bitumen mine, refinery extension and two cogeneration plants valued at over $4 billion.
