Rapra Technology is trialling a new piece of corrosion testing equipment - the CorrosionBox from Reltech - as part of its ongoing client work.

Mike Stickley, Manager Testing at Shrewsbury-based Rapra Technology says: "We are increasingly undertaking new product testing at Rapra.

The new equipment from Reltech offers advantages of front loading, and our technicians find it easy to use.

It will also give us increased scope for new product testing.

Our initial area of use will be the salt spray testing facilities".

The all new CorrosionBox test chamber offers a compact space saving and functional design with two models for performing salt spray and condensation testing to the highest national and international standards.

Now corrosion data can be achieved in a matter of days, allowing the determination of optimum surface protection needs for corrosive ferrous and nonferrous metals.

The chambers of the box are manufactured using high quality materials and offer controlled continuous, intermittent and condensation test capabilities.

They use internal reservoirs for continuous operation and employ spray vapour using various salt water solutions in heated water vapour.

The enhanced CorrosionBox model offers a program manager for more accurate control and monitoring of the test process.

The controller mounted in the chamber housing continuously displays the ongoing test conditions and the progress of the test.

This equipment can be programmed to perform sophisticated cyclic corrosion tests with self-diagnostics and routine service reminders, including warning messages and safety shut down.

Typical applications include the corrosion testing requirements of paints, surface coatings, plastics and many other materials for use in the automotive, aerospace, military, industrial and telecommunications industries.
