Rapra Technology has signed a contract with the Government of La Rioja region of Spain, nominating the company as one of a number of European partners.

Rapra Technology, Europe's leading polymer research and test house, has signed a contract with the Government of La Rioja region of Spain, nominating the company as one of a number of European partners under the Innovative Actions Programme of La Rioja tasked to deliver consultancy services to SME businesses in the region.

This initiative was raised at the First Innovation and Technology Workshop in Rioja at the end of last year.

Rapra's Nick Brooks was among the invited speakers, describing the range of Rapra's technical and information services to the local audience.

Elsewhere in Spain, Rapra is also collaborating actively with Aimplas, a regional technology organisation based in Valencia.

A number of other Spanish activities are already under way, with more planned.

"Extending Rapra's technology and consultancy business into Europe in this way makes absolute sense for our future - logically and strategically", says Richard Walton, responsible for Rapra's regional activity.

"Our growing skill at putting joint European research projects together has very often brought us into contact with the grass roots processing industries of various European countries".

"This has given us the awareness that we are very well placed and equipped to provide services for these new geographic markets".

This year sees Rapra Technology initiatives established for new accession states of Central Europe, particularly for the plastics and rubber industries in Poland and Hungary.

Rapra's "Doing business In Poland" conference takes place in Krakow on 30th and 31st May.

The event is timed to coincide conveniently with the Plastpol 2005 exhibition in Kielce later the same week.

Programme details are available from Rapra's website.

Early discussions are also taking place with Polish and Hungarian regional bodies, with the aim of developing regional delivery programmes for their SMEs.

All of Rapra's regional-based expertise has grown from Rapra's considerable experience in delivering regional programmes in the UK - principally for small to medium enterprises (SMEs).

The Rapra consultancy activity includes involvement in a number of West Midlands programmes, including Plastics West Midlands (PWM), Polymer Cluster and the Manufacturing Advisory Services, as well as newer programmes in Greater Merseyside, in Wales and in the North East of England.
