Rapra Technology continues its strategy of focused growth with the appointment of Philip Charlesworth as Business Development Manager for environmental-based products, services and solutions.

Rapra Technology continues to invest in its strategy of focused growth with the appointment of Philip Charlesworth as Business Development Manager for environmental-based products, services and solutions.

Charlesworth has first and second degrees in environmental sciences.

He has worked in industry and in government in scientific and management roles and his career also includes spells in waste management and environmental protection for local and central government.

Charlesworth's recent legal training culminated in being called to the Bar three years ago and he has worked as legal consultant to the Chartered Institute of Waste Management.

Charlesworth says: "The various aspects of my training and experience mean that Rapra can now offer a complete spread of services to companies".

"We can help in developing new eco polymers, and help design better recycling processes and recycled products".

"We can also give companies bespoke solutions in making their factories environmentally sound and help them comply with regulations such as COSHH, packaging regulations and the WEEE Directive which comes into effect shortly".

Charlesworth takes up his Rapra role with immediate effect and will straightaway develop the sales and marketing for Rapra's environmental testing and analytical and developmental capabilities.

The role will include the management of scientific and technical development of recycled, degradable and compostable products and processes.

Charlesworth will also be using Rapra expertise to enable processors get environmental products to market.

"For anyone working in the plastics/environmental interface, we at Rapra have a great deal to offer".

"In the next few months I shall be making sure that the industry is informed about all our capabilities and services".

Charlesworth adds: "Rapra can now offer its customers a very good service in the detail of waste management law".

"Whatever the need, the Rapra environmental brief will be especially focused on giving companies practical solutions to their environmental needs".

"Troubleshooting and bespoke problem-solving activity will be high on our agenda".

Recent technical Rapra successes have given the company encouragement to invest in its environmental future.

"Our recent work in the plastics compostable and biodegradable showed us that there is a real interest in proving scientific solutions in the polymer/environmental and ecological arenas", says David Ingles, Manager for Rapra's Technology Sales Group.

"Part of Philip's new role will be to promote the fact that such environmental solutions are available and can be developed successfully".

Ingles adds: "The current crop of directives and legislation means that virtually all companies in all industry sectors will undoubtedly have environmental, regulatory and recycling issues to deal with in the near future - and many of these will plastics-related".

"Under Philip's direction Rapra's services are now being developed and positioned to provide matching services and help in all these areas".
