Postgrad certificate covers polymer engineering

A Smithers Rapra product story

A postgraduate certificate in polymer engineering will be available from the University of Wolverhampton's School of Engineering and the Built Environment from September 2006.

The University of Wolverhampton's School of Engineering and the Built Environment (SEBE) and the international independent polymer consultancy Rapra Technology are collaborating on a postgraduate certificate (PgC) in polymer engineering, which will be available from September 2006.

In recent years there has been a gradual decrease in the provision of polymer based courses at higher education level in the UK and these are now limited to just a few establishments.

This unique industry-led programme has been designed to address the situation.

The University of Wolverhampton Postgraduate Certificate in Polymer Engineering will enable managers and technologists working in industry to increase their knowledge of polymer engineering through a flexible programme based on short courses provided by Rapra Technology followed by further study and assessment provided by the University of the Wolverhampton to obtain the award.

Participants will be fully supported and mentored in the application of their learning in their own working environment.

Rapra already has a well established programme of polymer based professional development courses.

Participants on these courses are now offered a pathway onto the postgraduate programme by accruing credits towards the award.

Key features of the programme include its flexible timeframe, typically two years to complete, and the provision of mentored support to participants in applying knowledge gained.

The University of The Wolverhampton, through it's Innovative Product Development Centre in Telford of Wolverhampton and Rapra Technology have developed a close relationship, co-operating on a series of polymer related funded projects designed to support industry in the West Midlands.
