A Smithers Rapra product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jul 7, 2008

Content is structured specifically for US-based companies to provide informed assistance on the actions required for preregistration.

Smithers Rapra is organising a one-day seminar "REACH - the critical 60 days" at two venues in the USA: Philadelphia on 23rd September 2008 and Houston on 25th September 2008.

The seminar which will be presented by Dr Steffen Erler, Director of Smithers Rapra REACH Services, is structured specifically for US-based companies to provide informed assistance on the actions required for preregistration; contracts with EU-based representatives; insurance and liability issues, including supply chain contracts and methods to manage "Candidate List" substances, to enable US companies to take action in the critical period of preregistration which ends on 1st December 2008.

Dr Erler has followed REACH for more than a decade, working with the OECD Existing Chemicals Programme and the European Commission.

With a background in chemistry and toxicology, he has been involved in drafting and designing parts of the REACH implementation projects and has acted as a researcher and consultant for companies, investors and regulators preparing for REACH.

Now working in a US-owned, UK-based company, Smithers Rapra, Erler's experience of REACH and its consequences goes beyond the EU perspective and appreciates the situation of US-based companies.

Smithers Rapra's programme of REACH Services has been developed in response to the impact that this far-reaching legislation has produced in its global customer supply chain.
