Conference gets to grip with interfaces

A RSA product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 7, 2002

On Wednesday 6th November 2002, the RSA is holding a one-day conference "Interface - user and machine".

Technology affects our lives in different ways.

All too often, though, the interaction between that technology and the user becomes frustrating and at worst debilitating.

The situation however, is changing and inclusively designed products and services are gradually appearing in the marketplace.

Yet despite a strong commercial argument for adopting this strategy, many companies are still wary of it.

On Wednesday 6th November 2002, the RSA is holding a one-day conference "Interface - user and machine", chaired by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, RSA President, to explore the relationship between users, manufacturers, designers, engineers and retailers.

It will held at the RSA, and is organised in partnership with PACCIT, People at the Centre of Communication and Information Technologies, an ESRC/EPSRC/DTI Research Programme and is sponsored by BTexact Technologies, BT's advanced research and technology business.

Speakers include: Prof Roger Coleman, Director, Helen Hamlyn Research Centre, Royal College of Art; Sir Christopher Frayling, Chairman, Design Council and Rector, Royal College of Art; David Yelding, Director, RICAbility (Research Institute for Consumer Affairs); Dr John Clarkson, Engineering Design Department, University of Cambridge; Prof Anne H Anderson OBE, Director of the PACCIT Programme; Jeff Patmore, Head of Internet and Multimedia Design and Solutions, BTexact Technologies; and Catriona Land, European Director for Own Brand, Asda.

Tickets to the conference cost GBP 150.
