Go-anywhere flowmeter available to rent
The TransPort PT878GC is the latest portable ultrasonic gas flowmeter from Panametrics, and is available to rent from RS Hydro.
The TransPort PT878GC is the latest portable ultrasonic gas flowmeter from Panametrics, and is available to rent from RS Hydro Reported to be the only portable, clamp-on flowmeter for ultrasonic gas flow measuring, the TransPort PT878GC from GE Infrastructure Sensing measures gas flow rates, logs data to internal memory, and exports flow data to a computer
It is designed for natural gas pipelines, compressed air, inert gas, or compressed gas applications.
The unit works with gases at high or low pressure in 20 to 600mm pipes and at temperatures up to 230C.
It measures velocity, volumetric rate, totalised actual and standard flow, with very wide rangeability, and accuracy of better than +/-2% of reading with +/-0.5% repeatability.
The TransPort PT878GC brings clamp-on ultrasonic gas flow metering capability to the portable level.
Designed for natural gas pipeline, compressed air, inert gas or any compressed gas applications, the new PT878GC has the ability to measure gas flow rates, log data to internal memory and export flow data to a PC.
The GE TransPort PT878GC flowmeter is a highly versatile, self-contained, portable transit-time system with options and accessories to meet a variety of gas flow measurement needs.
Its compact size, lightweight, rechargeable battery pack, and universal power supply charger make it the ideal go-anywhere flowmeter.
Historically, clamp-on flow metering was limited to liquids because existing methods could not work on metal pipes containing gases.
GE Infrastructure Sensing developed new technology that extends all the benefits of clamp-on flow metering to gas measurement.
This remarkable ultrasonic technology works with gases at high or low pressure in pipes made of metal and most other materials.
The TransPort PT878GC flowmeter can be used to measure the flow of any gas.
It is especially useful for metering erosive, corrosive, toxic, high-purity or sterile gases, or in any application where penetrating the pipe wall is undesirable.
As no tapping or cutting of the pipe is required, permanent installation costs are significantly reduced.
The meter has no wetted or moving parts, causes no pressure drop and has very wide rangeability.
The new meter was tested extensively on metal pipes with diameters as small as 0.75in and as large as 24in.
This meter is suitable for measuring the flow of air, hydrogen, natural gas and many other gases.
The meter can log 100,000 data points and download them to the user's PC via an optional wireless infrared connection.
All logged values can be transferred to the PC via an infra-red port (PT878GC only).
For 150mm and smaller pipes accuracy is typically +/-2% to 5% of reading; for pipes over 150mm typical accuracy is +/-1% to 2% of reading.
Other features include the ability to clamp on to pipe sizes from 20 to 610mm; an 8-hour battery life; and an operating temperature range from -20 to +55C.
The meter housing weighs in at 1.36kg and is IP67 rated.
A wide range of transducers and clamping fixtures are available for sale or hire.
There is an optional gauge for verifying pipe wall thickness.
