Both Alstom Train Services Ltd and Bombardier Transportation have specified a newly developed speedometer from Record Electrical for new trains

Both Alstom Train Services Ltd and Bombardier Transportation have specified a newly developed speedometer from Record Electrical, part of the Record Townson Mercer group, for the new 'Juniper' and 'Voyager' multiple units respectively.

The speedometer, which is stepper motor-driven, passes a speed signal to the onboard incident recorder.

A fault relay drive gives an output to the Train Management System.

The 100mm diameter ( x 135mm deep) unit is internally illuminated via 6 white LED's and covers a speed range of 0 to 140mph across a 4-20 mA input/output signal range.

The instrument is designed to self-test before each start up to ensure that the train wheel set is correct.

Record Electrical has specialised in transport instrumentation for many years and has full ISO 9000 certification.
