"To be successful in the highly competitive world of electronics, you've got to have something that sets your product apart", explained Senior Product Planner, Justin Brennan, "Adding glimmering, sophisticated colours gives us that edge".
When Cybiko began developing the Xtreme, they contacted the colour specialists at RTP Company who offered a range of new colour possibilities.
"Our market research confirmed that these new colours figure prominently with our target market", said Brennan.
"RTP Company showed us a variety of technologies and offered the consistency we were looking for".
Cybiko uses an RTP 300 Series polycarbonate, precoloured in metallic and chroma-shift colours for the Xtreme's molded enclosures.
The chroma-shift parts change colour because of a precise combination of pigments and dyes that display a geometric metamerism, commonly referred to as "colour travel" or "chameleon effect".
Featuring excellent heat, light, and dimensional stability, these technologies have a notched impact strength of 801J/m at 3.18mm, making them ideally suited for this type of application.
During the product development phase, RTP Company met frequently with Cybiko.
"Every time we met with RTP Company they were very helpful", said Brennan, "We got the information we needed quickly.
When we asked for product samples, we received them in a couple of days.
In the future, we will definitely look to RTP Company as an excellent source for precoloured materials".
The hand-held Cybiko Xtreme features a wide range of features specially designed for students, including e-mail, games, scientific calculator, organizer, address book, alarm clock, and MP3 player.
The idea behind the Xtreme is that a trendily styled electronic gadget will make learning a more enjoyable experience.
