Gigabit Ethernet gets the rugged treatment
Ruggedised networking and communications specialist RuggedCom is claiming a first in RuggedRated industrial Gigabit Ethernet.
Ethernet switch is rugged enough for substations
The RuggedSwitch RSG2100 offers utility customers the highest fibre optical and gigabit port densities, the highest EMI immunity, and the widest operating temperature range in the industry.
The IP65/IP67 rating indicates device protection in "wet" environments that includes immersion in water and water jet spray.
In addition to the IP65/IP67 rating, the RS969 is designed to the RuggedRated specification, which establishes a set of criteria that networking and communications devices must meet to ensure reliable operation in harsh industrial environments.
This includes the industry's most extensive set of tests and highest level of immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and heavy electrical surges.
The RS969 also offers the widest temperature range in the industry, ensuring reliable operation in temperatures ranging from -40 to +85C without the use of fans.
In addition, optional dual-redundant, parallel load-sharing power supplies provide customers with improved network availability.
Combining all these features together ensures the highest level of reliability for mission critical applications.
According to RuggedCom President and CEO Marzio Pozzuoli: "The development of the RuggedSwitch RS969 illustrates our commitment in providing advanced networking devices for demanding application environments".
"We want to enable and extend automation and control applications into new areas of the factory floor, environmentally harsh environments, and other hazardous locations, and we want to do so with all the advanced networking features that our customers are accustomed to in their corporate office networks".
As a fully managed switch, the RS969 features all of the advanced networking features of the RuggedSwitch Operating System (ROS) including: RuggedCom's eRSTP technology which provides enhanced support for large ring topologies and ultra-high-speed fault recovery; quality of service for real-time traffic; port rate limiting; VLAN support; and a rich set of diagnostics with logging and alarms.
The RuggedSwitch RS969 extends RuggedCom's leadership position as a developer of ruggedised networking and communications technology.
