R+W introduces Self-Opening Clamp for couplings

A R+W Coupling Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 12, 2009

R+W Coupling Technology has introduced the Self-Opening Clamp feature to avoid damaging a coupling during a removal process.

The feature involves a pin mounted directly adjacent to the head of the clamping screw.

When the screw is loosened, the screw head is blocked by the pin, transferring the force back onto the other side of the clamp and forcing the clamp to open.

Temporarily increasing the inside diameter of the clamp makes smooth installation possible and helps to break the bond between the hub and the shaft after extended use, simplifying shaft removal.

The Self-Opening Clamp is an available option for all R+W couplings with clamping collars and comes as standard on larger couplings.
