Unbiased battery comparison software!

Saft's new free software compares within seconds the suitability of different types of industrial batteries according to user-defined criteria - and it doesn't always recommend Saft's own batteries.

Saft's new free software compares within seconds the suitability of different types of industrial batteries according to user-defined criteria - and it doesn't always recommend Saft's own nickel-cadmium batteries ComBatt is a PC/Windows software tool that allows different battery types to be compared instantly

Rather than laboriously comparing data from several technical catalogues and deciding what performance criteria are most important, battery specifiers and engineers can set appropriate criteria and let ComBatt to sift through the data automatically.

Step by step, the user enters a weighting to each of 13 selection parameters, including the importance of purchase price and reliability, required lifetime, duty cycle and physical battery size.

Maintenance and testing regimes, ambient temperatures and the electrical and physical abuse likely to be suffered by the battery are also specified.

ComBatt then ranks different battery types, including various lead-acid and Ni-Cd options, according to suitability, and displays the results in graphical format for easy comparison.

Selection criteria and results can be printed out.

Saft's worldwide marketing manager for Industrial Batteries, Tony Green, said, "ComBatt is entirely unbiased.

If you are only interested in low cost and don't care if the battery fails, it will recommend a cheap automotive battery.

If you allow the program a bit more flexibility, it will balance your needs and provide a ranking of up to 11 different battery types.

"Of course, where high reliability, low maintenance or performance in extremes of ambient temperatures are vital, the Ni-Cd technologies will usually come out on top of the list," he adds.

The program runs on a PC under Windows 95/NT.

Language is customizable, and the program also contains descriptions of the different battery types in the database, full on-screen help, and tips to assist the decision-making process.

Saft nickel-cadmium batteries are used for critical standby power applications throughout industry.

Saft will collect old batteries at the end of their life, and recycle the materials.

Around 30 per cent of the cadmium in each new battery has been recycled at Saft's own facilities.

The company's products, systems and services are available worldwide through a network of sales offices and agents.

ComBatt is available free from the battery support website - www.saftware.com - or on CD. Request a free brochure from Saft Rechargeable Battery Systems ...
