Hawker Eternacell acquired and UK sites merged
Saft, Alcatel's battery activity, has acquired Hawker Eternacell, part of Invensys plc's Power Systems Division, manufacturer of primary lithium batteries for military and industrial applications
Saft, Alcatel's battery activity, has acquired Hawker Eternacell, part of Invensys plc's Power Systems Division.
Hawker Eternacell has two manufacturing facilities, one in South Shields in the UK and one in New Jersey in the US, for a total turnover of approximately £24 million.
The company manufactures primary lithium batteries for military and industrial applications worldwide, and these activities will be integrated into Saft's Specialty Battery Group.
Saft will maintain the manufacturing facility in South Shields, as well as the current level of employment.
Additionally, approximately 20 jobs will be transferred from Hainault, Essex, where Saft has a small battery assembly operation.
The commercial activity of Hawker Eternacell will be integrated into Saft's worldwide sales network, and the Hawker facility will change its name to Saft Ltd from January 10 2001.
The Hawker Eternacell brand name will be replaced by Saft over a 6 month period.
