Providing more safe power to field
devices
A new power supply has been designed by R Stahl's explosion protection division that can supply more power to field devices whilst remaining intrinsically safe, claimed the company.
A new power supply has been designed by R Stahl's explosion protection division that can supply more power to field devices whilst remaining intrinsically safe, claimed the company The company believes it is a step forward for process engineering, where intrinsically safe equipment generally operates at low energy to prevent electrical devices from creating arcs, sparks, or heat that could ignite an explosive substance

Isolators provide new levels of safety
The IS isolator series is a novel and future-leading series of modules for intrinsically safe circuits.
ATEX transition period is almost over
Dr Thorsten Arnhold, Marketing Director and Product Manager with R Stahl gives industry an update on the ATEX Directive.
Driven by demand for an ATEX approved version of Stahl's 9381 power supply, the new 9143 power supply is designed for use in zone one and two.
It is typically used to power three or four wire transducers, solenoid valves, light barriers, controllers and operating terminals.
Compared to conventional designs that use safety barriers, the new power supply design uses isolator technology, thus eliminating the series resistance to increase the power that can be safely supplied, said the company.
Operating on a 24V AC/DC or 85-250V AC input, the IS Pac 9143 power supply range is available with 4V to 17V output.
As with conventional designs, the output is galvanically isolated from the external power supply, the stable, intrinsically safe voltage being set using a potentiometer on the front panel.
The increased power capability widens the application of the power supply to new process automation applications, the flexible supply widening the geographic use of the IS Pac range.
As is the case on all IS pac isolators, the power supply is available with interchangeable screw, spring-clamp, or insulation-displacement connections.
Stahl's Schaltgerate 's 9143 power supply features a compact design with a width of only 35.2 mm.
It is easily mounted by clipping on to flat or high DIN rails.
The IS Pac 9143 intrinsically safe power supply is marked with e II (2) G [Eel ib] IIC/IIB, added the company.
