EtherNet/IP, the industrial interface for use on standard Ethernet hardware, is now supported by R Stahl HMI Systems' hazardous area HMIs.

EtherNet/IP, the industrial interface for use on standard Ethernet hardware, is now supported by R Stahl HMI Systems' hazardous area HMIs The zone 1 and 21 approved Exicom and zone 2 and 22 ProVicom models have adopted the interface providing seamless office to plant floor integration

As an active member of ODVA (Open DeviceNet Vendor Association), which specifies EtherNet/IP and carries out compliance tests, R Stahl HMI Systems is the first hazardous area HMI manufacturer to implement this protocol.

Initially, the interface is available for the Eagle model, the hardware platform for basic control panel applications through to simple process visualisation.

Due to the flexibility of the EtherNet/IP Stahl's other hardware platforms are set to follow suit.

The EtherNet/IP protocol was developed to meet the growing demand for standardised communications based on Ethernet technology for machine controls, robots and process controls used in automation.

A particular feature of EtherNet/IP is that it ensures interoperability of control technology from different suppliers.

It represents a flexible and uniform communication solution particularly for heterogenous networks.

EtherNet/IP extends commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) Ethernet to the Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) - the same upper-layer protocol and object model used by CAN-based DeviceNet networks.
