Super-strength claim for adhesive tape
Scapa is challenging anyone who has failed to find an adhesive tape strong enough to meet the most demanding binding applications to sample super-strength Scapa 3190.
A total of 450 jobs are expected to be secured or created by the funding.
Several of Scapa's key products will be manufactured at the Ashton 'centre of excellence', including the company's unique halogen-free, fire retardant Megolon cable compounds.
Megolon helps ensure the safe evacuation of large public areas and protects costly equipment from irreversible damage since it does not emit smoke or caustic chemicals when burnt.
The Ashton facility will consolidate existing manufacturing capability into a 10 acre area, as well as offering fertile ground for continuing research and development.
Customers will benefit from more effective deployment of Scapa's skills and capabilities as well as a re-engineered supply chain and logistics.
Capital investment, including provision of a full-width coating machine and improved conversion capabilities, will facilitate laboratory trials on new products, pilot scales trials and full volume production.
In Dunstable, a world class manufacturing facility will be established with a focus on foam-based and medical tapes.
The RSA award for Dunstable is the single largest such grant for investment in the region since it was designated an assisted area in 1993.
In addition to these changes, Scapa is reviewing its sites throughout Europe to optimise production of its full range of single- and double-sided tapes, films, foam and foils.
