The QMC 121 Quick Mould Changing System for injection moulding generates maximum clamping force right across the area of the mould and approaching the mould centre

Staubli is introducing an innovative magnetic Quick Mould Changing System for use in injection moulding applications The QMC 121 sets new standards for both performance and safety

The system employs independent single pole, circular magnets which generate maximum clamping force right across the area of the mould and approaching the mould centre, an area that is often not adequately covered by other magnetic clamping systems.

Other systems that use rectangular dual pole magnets are not individual magnets and only reach full clamping force when an even number of rectangles are fully covered by the mould.

They also require non-magnetic resin between the poles, which does not make any contribution to the clamping force.

Single pole technology is therefore more efficient, ensures a lower flux height and any interference produced by stray magnetism is eliminated.

An integral part of the system is the patented sensitive detection equipment that not only checks the mould set-up prior to use but provides immediate warning if any moulding errors subsequently arise, ensuring protection of both the mould and the machine.

The QMC 121 incorporates a number of safety-checking mechanisms that are not offered by any other system.

A built in magnetic measuring device analyses the magnetic flux after magnetisation and detects if the mould is not held flat enough against the magnet or if the baseplate material is not permeable.

Other systems only check that sufficient current was used during the magnetising process and would not detect any material deficiencies.

A second magnetic detection sensor monitors the contact with the mould.

The slightest movement will cause a change in the magnetic flux pattern and the moulding process will be immediately shut down.

The result is a more responsive and sensitive technique than the basic proximity probes used by other systems.

The Staubli system is built into a rigid honeycomb steel matrix with the induced pole area between the magnets being solid steel right through to the baseplate.

This design provides much greater stability and rigidity, resulting in a longer service life.

Overall, the Staubli QMC 121 offers a high integrity, safe and effective quick mould change system with more built-in safety features and interlocks than any competing product.

These features, while significantly increasing the security of the system, do not add to the process time but ensure the safe working and long-term reliability of the system. Request a free brochure from Staubli UK (Connectors) ...
