Nonspill couplings come in larger sizes
Larger sizes added to the established HCB range of dry-break nonspill couplings are particularly suitable for high-integrity bulk handling and filling applications.
Staubli, celebrating 50 years in connectors this year, has added much larger sizes to its well established HCB range of dry-break nonspill couplings The new sizes are particularly suitable for high integrity bulk handling and filling applications where any leakage would be unacceptable, typically in the chemical, process engineering and defence markets

HCB couplings are a compact and flush faced nonspill design, preventing any air inclusion in the system when connecting as well as avoiding any spillage on disconnection.
The initial HCB range introduced a few years ago included sizes up to DN8, in response to market demand for larger sizes, the range has been extended with DN40, 50 and 80 sizes now introduced.
The new larger couplings are designed for use in situations when any spillage at all must be avoided.
This may reflect safety concerns for example with flammable or corrosive liquids or for economic reasons with highly expensive chemicals.
One typical applicable is by the French military, which uses HCB couplings on its refuelling vehicles; the inclusion in the fuel line of a HCB coupling allows the same refuelling vehicle to be used to fuel all types of vehicle by carrying a short adapter hose fitted with the specific connector required.
Previously, dedicated refuelling units were required for each type of vehicle.
All the HCB connectors feature the Staubli patented bayonet locking system which provides a safe, quick and reliable connection that is also suitable for high vibration applications.
The locking system provides a positive feedback response, ensuring a high integrity connection and eliminating any chance of misconnection.
On the new larger sizes, the coupling can be fitted with a hand operated wheel if required.
Typical applications for the new sizes of coupling are in the secure loading and unloading or wagons and storage vessels, distribution units and fluid transfer systems as well as quick, safe connection of refuelling hoses.
Like all Staubli couplings, the complete HCB range of connectors is available on rapid ex-stock delivery to all parts of the UK. Request a free brochure from Staubli UK (Connectors) ...
