Insulation test alternatives compared
Jim Wallace of Seaward looks at the relative merits of different electrical safety tests used to assess the integrity of the insulation in electrical appliances.
The new VT800 carries out automatic measurement of voltages present, indicating the voltage level detected with an LED display.
The VT800D model also incorporates a full LCD display, indicating voltage present by both graphical display and exact value.
In addition, the VT800D has an integrated function for measuring resistance up to 200 Ohm and has selectable probe tips to allow easy measurement in different locations.
The new testers complement the Seaward range of KDIE high voltage indicator that includes both neon and digital systems to confirm the presence of voltage on earthed neutral electrical circuits up to 33KV.
A range high voltage phasing rods are also provided to enable phase comparisons to be made at the point of paralleling two circuits without the interposition of voltage transformers or secondary wiring circuits.
A neon type instrument, the PR11, is available for use on circuits up to 11.5KV and digital versions are available for use on systems up to 15KV and 33KV.
All Seaward high voltage instruments combine high performance reliability and accuracy with robust construction and in-built operator safety that includes high-grade PVC tubing, totally encapsulated resistor chains and hand guards on all elements.
As well as specialist carrying cases, a range of accessories is also available in support of the main high voltage test instruments.
These comprise proving units, battery chargers, overhead line extensions and bend end adaptors for specialist switchgear locations. Request a free brochure from Seaward Electronic ...
