Appliance testers have RCD test capability

A Seaward Electronic product story

Portable appliance testers in the Seaward Primetest range are equipped with a special RCD test capability in line with the requirements of the IEE Code of Practice for PAT testing.

The IEE Code of Practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment provides a guide for those with a responsibility for electrical safety under the Electricity At Work Regulations 1989.

Advanced portable appliance testers in the Seaward PrimeTest range are equipped with a special RCD test capability in line with the requirements of the IEE Code of Practice for PAT testing.

Among the changes introduced in the third edition of the code is the requirement to test the operation of RCDs fitted to extension leads or multiway adaptors.

The code recommends that RCD trip time is measured using an RCD test instrument to determine whether the trip time is within specified limits.

To avoid the practice of using separate RCD testers alongside a PAT tester, hand-held testers in the Seaward Primetest 350, Primetest 300 and Primetest 200 series are now equipped with an integral RCD test capability.

This enables RCD tests to be carried out automatically alongside all other essential electrical appliance safety, basic electrical circuit and IEC mains leads tests.

All Primetest electrical safety testers are hand-held, lightweight and battery powered.

These testers incorporate operational features to enable fast testing by contractors, service engineers, facilities managers and safety personnel.

The Primetest 300 and 350 testers possess the capability for wireless connection of bar code scanners, label printers and other accessories to reduce downtime between tests by eliminating the cumbersome plugging and unplugging of leads and cords.

In these instruments, a large internal memory also facilitates the storage of electrical test data, as well as details of the condition of other safety equipment.

The Primetest range is supported by a series of Patguard software programs, capable of storing safety test results and the development of accurate PAT test management databases.

Special PAT solutions packages combining appropriate testers and software programs are available for specific safety testing applications.
