An electrical safety testing company has increased the productivity of its entire field service team with the latest portable appliance test technology from Seaward Electronic.

Electrical Installation and Appliance Testing (EIAT) UK has equipped its 50-strong team of engineers involved in the daily testing of thousands of items of electrical equipment with Seaward's advanced Primetest 350 tester.

In doing so, the company claims that test times have been significantly reduced, creating a 30 per cent improvement in productivity without compromising the integrity of the testing undertaken.

The lightweight Primetest 350 handheld PAT tester incorporates all Class I- and Class II-required electrical safety tests in a compact design.

In keeping with the current IET Code of Practice, the Primetest 350 is also equipped with an RCD test, a 250V insulation resistance test and an alternative leakage test.

It is also equipped with Bluetooth technology for the wireless connection of barcode scanners, label printers and other accessories.

An important factor in EIAT's specification of the Primetest 350 is the extended long-life battery power of the unit, which reduces the reliance on mains supply and cuts the downtime between tests.

As a result, engineers can complete testing in large multi-location sites without constantly plugging in and rebooting the instrument from one location to the next.

Dean Precious, technical director of EIAT UK, said: 'There is no doubt that the practical benefits of mains-free testing has had a significant impact on the day-to-day activities of our engineers, who now have the freedom and flexibility to move around large industrial and office premises without constantly waiting for the instrument to power up.

'The tester remains operational throughout a site visit and this feature, together with the all-round test capabilities of the unit and an uncomplicated user platform, has helped us to provide a very competitive test service.

'This means that contracts won up and down the country can be serviced on time and with maximum efficiency,' he added.

EIAT UK's team of test engineers carries out portable appliance testing for a range of clients, including the Ministry of Defence, educational establishments, FM companies, local government organisations, industrial sites and the retail and commercial sectors.

The field service team carries out electrical inspection and testing at client premises during the day, downloading test results from the tester into personal laptops via USB or Bluetooth connectivity.

Data is then transmitted to the head office, where all results are retained in specialist high-volume PAT software.

Test results are then exported into standard Microsoft applications such as Excel or PDF secure files for the supply of full reports to clients in a variety of media formats, such as email, CD Rom or secure storage on the company's web-based client area.

The incorporation of an in-situ fast recharging port on the Primetest 350 means that, at the end of the working day, the batteries can be charged without removing them from the instrument.

To facilitate this, the tester is supplied with a fast charger that fully charges a set of batteries in four hours.

The Primetest 350 is the latest addition to Seaward's range of portable appliance test instrumentation, software and accessories, used to ensure the safety of electrical equipment used in the workplace.

EIAT UK provides fixed wiring installation testing and thermal imaging and power monitoring services on a nationwide basis.
