Connectors expand autosport sensor options

A Souriau product story

Souriau has made two additions to its extensive 8STA Autosport connector range.

Souriau has made two additions to its extensive 8STA Autosport connector range - its size-12 200A power connector and size-4 6-way connector for twin-track dual-output sensors.

Designed for the harsh motorsport environment, the latest products offer size and weight advantages over existing products.

The latest size 12 power connector brings high current carrying capability in the most compact, lightweight package size available.

Capable of handling a continuous current of at least 200A in an ambient temperature of 50C, the gold-plated size 4 contacts are suitable for cable sizes from 10 to 35mm2.

To provide security under severe shock and vibration, the contacts are retained inside the connector cavity with a metal clip.

They are easily removed for servicing using a standard extraction tool.

With six colour-coded keyway orientations the connectors can be used in multiple vehicle applications such as the power distribution box, alternator, starter motor or battery connection, without confusion leading to cable connection errors.

The new size-4 6-way connector is designed specifically for twin-track dual-output sensors.

Until now, race teams were forced to employ two size-2, -4 or -6 3-way connectors or one size-8 connector to perform this function.

However, the new size-4 6-way connector from Souriau offers a significantly smaller and more lightweight solution than any other connector available in the market.

With many sensors located in restricted spaces with severe vibration conditions, such as the gearbox, the reduced weight and size benefits offered by the new size-4 6-way connector become even more critical.

Both connectors have the same rugged aluminium body as the rest of the 8STA range, ensuring a long service life.

Environmentally sealed in a mated condition to IP67, they have a working temperature between -55 and +175C.

They also feature a quick locking bayonet coupling system.

The new full 8STA range will be available from February 2007.

They can be purchased from Souriau's distributing partners BF1 Connect or Filcon UK.
