Souriau extends engine connector range

A Souriau product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Aug 18, 2009

Souriau has extended its range of engine connectors to meet electrical power demands up to 80A continuous rating in an external environment at 260C, with a 20 per cent gain in compactness.

The range is designed to improve reliability and safety, while costs are reduced due to a weight saving which directly impacts fuel consumption.

The connectors are derived from the MIL-C-83723 standard and qualified according to the EN 2997 and ESC10 standards, so that it includes power connectors.

The development is intended to match with high currents, high vibrations and high ambient temperatures, making it suitable for aircraft engine conditions.

To achieve this, Souriau has used a bracelet that optimises the area of contact between pin and socket and is capable of conveying up to 80A continuously in an environment at a temperature of 260C, while being 20 per cent smaller than a standard contact of equivalent performance.

The range extension consists of two contact sizes accepting currents up to 60A and 80A.

These contacts can be used in EN 2997 connector configurations of two, four, or six power contacts per connector for maximum density.

Hermetic power connectors with guaranteed leakage rates of less than 10-9 atm cc/s have also been used.

This technology has been qualified by Airbus (ABS1426, ABS1427, ABS1343, ABS1344).
