The latest addition to the Schaffner FN2000 series of powerline filters is a low-cost solution to a variety of EMC compliance problems in applications ranging from motor drives to precision instrumentation, switched-mode power supplies and motor drives.

The FN2070 family is designed to provide a cost-effective solution for broadband filtering requirements, and is available in 13 standard versions, with current ratings from 1 to 16A.

The multistage design of the FN2070 provides high attenuation performance of both common- and differential-mode interference, particularly at higher frequencies.

The design combines high-value components with an elegant layout to reduce the size of the filter.

For example, the 16A version combines two stages of 2.8mH inductors with dual 1 F X capacitors and dual 4.7nF Y capacitors, yet still comes in a housing measuring just 99 x 86 x 58mm.

Options for the FN2070 include three choices of input/output terminations and variants specifically for medical and safety-critical applications.

For motor-drive applications, the performance of the filter can be adjusted by varying the Y capacitor value.
