CAL36 actuator can achieve 50G acceleration

SMAC has announced the launch of the CAL36, the latest addition to its CA series of electric cylinders.

The actuator was initially designed to replace CAMs on a high-speed CAM indexer.

The CAL36 series has a 36mm diameter, with stroke lengths of 15mm, 25mm and 50mm.

The design of a round-centred coil and guide results in no internal moment.

Low friction allows the application of very light forces.

The unit can achieve up to 50G acceleration and can offer a long life expectancy due to over-guiding and internal permanent lubrication.

As with all SMAC actuators, the CAL36 series of electric cylinders has independent control of position, speed, and force.

Further to this, the SMAC Soft-Land capability is incorporated to allow the actuator to land on parts gently and then apply required forces.

The company said this is ideal for handling fragile or expensive components and material.

The actuator also has the ability to do work and simultaneously provide feedback about the success or failure of the work done.

The CAL36 series of electric cylinders is based on proprietary SMAC moving-coil actuator (MCA) technology.

They are offered with a choice of encoder resolutions from 5 micron down to 50 nanometre to satisfy a variety of industrial, scientific, motion control and quality check applications.

Vacuum for pick-and-place applications, return springs, and air cylinder type mounting options are available upon request.
