A new VME64x compatible 19in subrack system features high power, comprehensive built in EMC shielding and an integrated Chassis Monitoring Module (CMM) to control all the important system parameters

A new VME64x compatible 19in subrack system is being introduced by Schroff.

The unit features high power, comprehensive built in EMC shielding and an integrated Chassis Monitoring Module (CMM) to control all the important system parameters.

Potential applications are numerous and include industrial automation and measurement and control.

In addition to accepting modules conforming to the popular VME open system architecture, the enclosure also has fully integrated Schroff modules to provide power, thermal management and system monitoring The 1000W DC power supply tray plugs directly into the backplane from the rear and is easy to install and remove using Schroff's special low profile IET handles.

Two fan trays that are easily accessed from the front of the subrack each give 500mü/hour airflow, providing effective cooling for the electronics within the enclosure.

The thermal management solution that also includes speed control and failure supervision is a result of careful simulation during the development stages of the design.

The 6U high boards fitted from the front of the enclosure plug into a 7U high backplane that utilises SMT technology to provide 21 slots.

80mm I/O transition PCB's can be fitted from the rear of the enclosure.

The integration of boards corresponds to IEEE 1101.10 and IEEE 1101.11.

All main operating parameters of the subrack are supervised by the CMM.

The items monitored include, power, temperature and fan speed.

Front panel mounted LEDs indicate status.

Thanks to different interfaces, such as, I2C (VITA 38 system management bus), RS232 and RS485 the module can communicate with higher level systems.

Used in conjunction with Schroff's new CCS20 it is possible to remotely control the CMM and all system data via internet.

In the case of a failure, messages can be sent by various methods, e.g., by email or SMS (short message system) to a mobile phone.

The VME64x subrack has an overall height of 10U and a depth of 460mm.

Extension of the system can be achieved by the addition of a 1U disk drive tray for HD, FD and CD-ROM.

This is fitted to the base of the system by removing the bottom cover.
