Pentair Enclosures is to establish a manufacturing facility in China to accommodate strong customer demand in the Far East markets.

The plant in Jimo, Qingdao, China will expand Pentair's Asian manufacturing capabilities.

The company's business in the Asia-Pacific region is expected to expand at a compound annual rate of 50 percent over the next four years.

"China offers Pentair a huge market opportunity, particularly in the high growth telecom market," said Randall J.

Hogan, chief executive officer.

"Many of our major electronic packaging customers have moved, or are moving into China, and we can now begin to serve them from a local base of operations.

The phased opening of the Qingdao facility will commence in the first quarter of 2001.

By the end of the year it will be producing cabinets, subracks, components, and integrated systems, principally for Pentair's datacom and telecom customers.

Although the leased facility will be the company's first manufacturing operation in China, Pentair has been selling enclosure products in China for more than a year, and has been sourcing other products from China and other Far East nations for 15 years.

Pentair has operated an enclosure manufacturing facility in Japan since 1994.
