The CLV440 and CLV490 laser scanners from Sick's advanced line includes some astonishing features not found in other scanners of this size Smart is software that runs on a second processor within the scanner

It works more like a vision system than traditional bar code scanners.

The scanner takes multiple scans of the code and holds them in its picture store for decoding.

Smart allows partially destroyed or badly printed codes to be read even if the code has pallet strapping diagonally through the label.

Barcodes can only be read if the laser light spot is small, with respect to the smallest bar of the code.

The spot needs to be focussed, if it is factory set the scanner has to be mounted to suit the focus position.

With these two new scanners, the focus position is freely selectable by the user, allowing one scanner to do the same function as many other devices, ensuring the scanners light spot is well focussed in all applications.

With the CLV490, the focus is automatically set by the scanner, which measures the time of flight of the laser beam to the barcode.

Setting the scanner up was rather an art, requiring specialist knowledge.

Now times are changing.

To set such important functions as scan speed, quiet zone threshold, focus position, amplifier gain, min and max reading distance/bar code type, all you have to do is show the scanner the auto set-up profile code and point the scanner at the code.

From there on the scanner sets itself up.

Great performance is guaranteed.

The set-up software can store the data as a set-up file for cloning other scanners or print out profile codes, a special barcode, which will configure the reader when scanned.

The CLV490 high end laser scanner is truly a market leader with the highest performance for its size.

The CLV490 has proved itself in many demanding applications already from cold stores, forklift trucks and omni-directional code reading on conveyors and also reading baggage in automatic luggage sortation systems around the world.
