Wide range of Ex approved sensors added by Sick
A host of sensors tested by the German Federal Institute of Physics and Technology and Exi-approved have recently augmented Sick's range of inductive and magnetic proximity switches.
As well as significantly reducing installation and commissioning time, they provide users and installers with a quick and convenient way to specify and order a complete safety system using a single part number.
The SMS range differentiates between product and personnel access and has applications in palletisers and warehousing, automotive production lines, conveyors, shuttle cars and fork lift truck access areas.
Multibeam light curtains with muting capabilities are well established for use in machine safety applications.
However, the specification of most entry/exit systems involves the selection and ordering of a number of different components, which then require assembly on site.
For an OEM this can be a time consuming activity.
The two types of system available cover a wide range of applications.
Each complies with the requirements of IEC61496-1 and IEC61496-2 and comprises a multi-beam light curtain, mounting columns, muting sensors, cables and muting indicator lamp.
For applications where the highest integrity is required, the SMS package with a type 4 light barrier comprises a two-beam light grid with four testable WT24 proximity muting sensors.
This package may be configured as standard to provide maximum security, or cross-configured to provide a cost effective solution using the single beam light grid in an active/passive mode with two testable WL24 reflex sensors for muting.
For applications where risk assessment has indicated a lower potential hazard, the SMS package with a type 2 light barrier comprises a two-beam light barrier with two WL260 reflex sensors suitable for a cross configuration.
These standard packages cover a wide range of applications under a single part number.
Other packages are available.
