Intelligent interfaces enhance safety

A SICK (UK) product story

Erwin Sick is expanding its comprehensive range of safety products with the introduction of the UE 10 series of safety relays.

Erwin Sick is expanding its comprehensive range of safety products with the introduction of the UE 10 series of safety relays.

Part of the Intelliface family of intelligent interface components, the new range includes emergency stop relays, guard and gate switch interfaces and two hand controls.

The new products are the first phase in the introduction of a complete range of Intelliface products, introduced to satisfy customer demand for a broadened range of products from the industry leader.

They benefit from Erwin Sick's extensive product knowledge, application experience, unrivalled product quality and first class technical support.

The relays are suitable for use with AC or DC and there is a choice of volt-free contact outputs.

Three N/O and one N/C outputs are available as standard with the option of up to nine N/O using an expansion block.

The relays can be configured for manual or automatic reset by means of an external link and there is input short circuit detection and the facility for time delayed contact interlocked gates.

This time delay may be set for 'on' or 'off' operation and a potentiometer allows adjustment from 3 to 300 seconds to allow high inertia machinery to come to a halt.

Other features include concurrence monitoring, used with multiple interlocks to ensure that two inputs are active at the same time.

The inputs may be configured for 'on' or 'off' operation and have an adjustable time range of between 3 and 30 seconds.

A plug in block allows the terminals to be removed for maintenance without having to remove any wiring.

This enables a replacement unit to be installed with the minimum of disruption, significantly reducing machine downtime.

EDM (external device monitoring) allows the status of relays connected to the outputs to be monitored, providing enhanced safety for the operator.

The relays are quick to install to 35mm DIN rail and the standard 22mm width ensures maximum functionality in the minimum of space.

Both innovative and unique, the new relays are based on Erwin Sick's extensive experience in the field of safety.

They provide the user and machinery manufacturer with a cost effective, high performance range of safety products to suit almost every application.

Intelliface, is a family of intelligent interface components that allows safety sensors to be integrated in relay, PLC and safety-oriented field bus environments.

The UE10 is the first product in the Intelliface range which will be expanded to include a comprehensive range of versatile and configurable multi-input devices.

By using the Intelliface concept, users profit from rapid commissioning, simple maintenance, and speedy replacement, minimising the cost of ownership and ensuring that the integrity of the safety technology is maintained throughout the entire plant.
