Sick (UK) has launched a new version of its highly flexible MLG modular light grid.
Sick (UK) has launched a new version of its highly flexible MLG modular light grid.
The new model incorporates a Profibus node within the sensor's housing, and so removes the need for an external Profibus gateway, saving users about GBP 140.
Aimed at those already operating on a Profibus network, the unit's universal GSD file ensures fast system setup and, with its own PNO number, can register for bus communication within a machine control system.
The 12Kbyte GSD file, which interprets the sensor's signals for the PLC, can be downloaded from www.profibus.com.
With all of this functionality, the MLG Profibus is ready to start up after only a few mouse clicks and, if required, all configuration parameters can be sent to a new light grid, via Profibus.
The MLG range thanks to its functionality, modularity and choice of mounting systems offers numerous possibilities for individual device layout regarding size, configuration and interfaces and the number of beams and their relative spacing (resolution) can be task-specific.
Integrated standard measurement functions and user-friendly set up software provide rapid, simple and practical parameter setting and commissioning.
It is also testable during operation so there is no need to stop any machines.
Offering an anodised aluminium body, the MLG range offers a number of detection heights from 100 to 3140mm, scanning distances from 5 to 8.5m, a short response time (less than 8ms for 60 light beams) beam spacing at 10, 20, 30 and 50mm intervals, an ingress rating of IP65 and an operating temperature range between -25 and +55C.
Typical applications include: detection of object heights eg on a conveyor or in a storage space; regulation of web slack; monitoring zonal divisions eg to monitor pick-to-light commissioning processes; classification of objects on the basis of their size, edges and profile checks; detection of lying parts or parts falling through the light grid; loop control of rails; and hole and crack detection.
This whole MLG range represents a versatile and cost-effective solution for a multitude of industries and customer-specific automation tasks.
