The Hiperdrive from Sick provides precision, repeatability and a high level of operating reliability in positioning applications, resulting in fewer rejects and greater product and process quality.

The Hiperdrive (highly integrated performance drive) from Sick is claimed to provide precision, repeatability and a high level of operating reliability in positioning applications, resulting in fewer rejects and greater product and process quality The integrated positioning drive comprises a motor, gearbox, absolute measurement system and control electronics

It allows rapid automatic changeovers in printing, packaging and metal-processing machines, giving users more flexibility, reduced changeover times, higher productivity and reduced operating costs.

The move towards smaller batch sizes and more frequent product changes has had an effect on the optimum levels of use of packaging and processing machines.

With a larger variety of batches and products, numerous adjustments and set-up procedures - matched to the needs of specific batches or products - are frequently required before production can commence.

As a result of these changes, set-up times can be long, especially if they have to be performed manually and particularly for more complex machines with multiple axes.

Using Hiperdrive, machine changes can be carried out fully automatically with high levels of accuracy and repeatability.

These capabilities come in a compact housing, allowing simple integration into new and existing machines.

With different versions offering operating speeds up to 280rev/min and driving torques up to 20Nm, there is a variant available to meet the performance requirements of most applications.

Absolute detection of the angle of rotation provides a clear absolute positional value for every axis requiring positioning, eliminating the need to perform a reference run on machine start-up.

Integration into existing plant networks can be via a Profibus-DP or Devicenet clip-on module and the IP65-rated enclosure allows use in harsh environments, such as those caused by paper and wood dusts, sanding or abrasion processes.

The drive is an alternative to hand wheels, particularly for machines with several adjustment axes.

It is not a replacement for the servo drives used on the main process axes of machines, but rather an alternative for automating the adjustment of auxiliary axes.
