Acoustic foam combats airborne noise

Sound Dead Steel (SDS) is launching a range of high-density, sound-absorbent, self-adhesive open- or closed-cell acoustic foam dampers known as SDS AcousticFoam.

Sound Dead Steel deals with transmitted noise, but does not have a great effect on airborne noise, and that is where the SDS AcousticFoam comes in.

For example, if the noise from a pump or compressor needs subduing, an acoustic guard or enclosure could be manufactured from steel.

Bonding SDS self-adhesive dampers on the steel panels would dramatically reduce the radiated noise from these panels, but the airborne noise would still be bouncing around inside, seeking gaps to escape.

Covering the inside surface with SDS AcousticFoam (flat or eggbox profile) absorbs a significant amount of airborne noise.

Sound Dead Steel can provide a manufacturing service if required.

The foam can be fixed to almost any surface and, if bonded to a wall, would reduce the reflection of sound from that surface.

It can be placed inside a wall-mounted enclosure with perforated steel on the front to protect it, which is useful when rockwool derivatives are not suitable due to hygiene or other concerns.

The material is fire certified and relatively inexpensive.
