Load cell amplifier sits in the cell

A Synectic Design product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 27, 2005

The SY014 in-cell load cell amplifier is one of the most compact devices of its type available.

The SY014 in-cell load cell amplifier from Synectic Design is a high quality amplifier for the load cell signal.

It is recognised for high quality performance, reliability and diversity.

Most importantly it is one of the most compact load cell amplifiers available.

The SY014 is available as two- or three-wire versions.

The two-wire version is loop powered from the amplifier circuit and the three-wire version is powered via an external power supply.

Output from the amplifier is via either voltage output (of 15-30V) or 4-20mA current output.

The 4-20mA output current is sourced form the output terminal, therefore the load cell should be between output and supply negative.

Operating voltage of the two-wire version is from 5 to 36V.

The three-wire version operates from approximately 10 to 30V; the input voltage is a selectable 11-20 or 14-30V DC.

The SY014 is designed for 200R or higher strain gauge bridges, working at a bandwidth of 3kHz.

The signal is can be adjusted by +/-20% using span trimmer and auto zero amplifier is possible with very high stability.

Unlike other competing units adjusting the zero trimmer to set the 4mA output does not affect the span as it is noninteractive.

The unit is also very stable as it has high noise immunity.

Response time for the SY014 at a scale of 500mV/V is 50us, with a typical rise and fall time is 75us.

The SY014 has been used as standard for strain, load and force measurement.

Although it has been designed specifically to measure the above, Synectic Design can modify it to measure other quantities.

The SY014 in-cell load cell amplifier is a very compact unit, only 25mm in diameter, it is usually sold uncased, but casing is available if necessary.
