Sandvik Materials Technology has expanded its manufacturing and stock programme for enhanced machinability stainless steel hollow bar to include sizes up to 420mm outside diameter.
Sandvik Materials Technology has expanded its manufacturing and stock programme for enhanced machinability stainless steel hollow bar to include sizes up to 420mm outside diameter.
It means that Sandvik now has a range of over 100 different hollow bar sizes, many of which can be supplied from stock.
The new sizes have all the improved machinability benefits of the Sanmac family of stainless steels without jeopardising key properties such as corrosion resistance and mechanical strength.
They are aimed particularly at producers of mechanical components used in the manufacture of valves, pumps, flow meters, fittings, flanges and mechanical seals for the process industries.
Previously available in a size range from 30 up to 250mm outside diameter, the new extended range has six new sizes from 300mm OD x 200mm ID up to 420 OD x 300mm ID in lengths from 3.5 to 5m, produced in stainless steel grades Sanmac 304L and Sanmac 316L and available from stock.
All hollow bar sizes can be supplied cut to length if required.
The Sanmac family of stainless machining steels is the result of extensive research and process development by Sandvik Materials Technology to improve machinability.
They are produced with the optimum chemical composition, optimised nonmetallic inclusions and closely controlled production and process parameters.
Working in close co-operation with sister company, Sandvik Coromant - a world leader in cemented carbide cutting tools and tooling systems - Sandvik's Sanmac stainless steels are designed to reduce machine tool wear, increase cutting speeds, improve productivity and obtain significant cost reductions per produced component.
As well as the range of hollow bar, Sandvik manufactures Sanmac round bar in sizes from 20 up to 500mm, in a range of stainless and duplex stainless steel grades.
Supplied peel turned or peel turned and polished, Sanmac bar is available in lengths of 3 to 7m, depending on diameter and is produced in accordance with all relevant international standards.

When required, all products can be supported with technical advice on the selection of material grades, recommended tool inserts and cutting data for a range of machining applications.
