Extreme conditions in today's oil and gas wells place greater demands on slicklines and logging cables, making the right grade selection even more important.

A new, dedicated computer program, developed by Sandvik for the selection of wireline material grades, not only saves time, but also makes grade selection fast and accurate, while helping to reduce costs.

Selecting a grade that meets the requirements reduces the risk of downtime and improves wireline performance.

This process can be very time consuming and can result in the selection of a higher grade than may be necessary for a given well.

Developed by Sandvik engineers and software designers and rigorously tested, the new, easy to use, innovative software program identifies quickly and accurately the most cost-effective grade, producing significant customer benefits.

The choice of the correct material grade depends on a number of significant factors relating to the well and whether it is sweet, medium or sour.

These include: bottom hole pressure, temperature, hydrogen sulphide levels, carbon dioxide levels and levels of chlorides.

Once these parameters have been entered the program selects a grade that meets the individual requirements of the well, in addition to listing alternative grades for consideration.

The result offers the most cost-effective grade for the application, based on the information from the well.

The program eliminates any potential mistakes, given the accuracy of the well data, and reduces the time and effort to select a wireline grade to a few seconds.
