An austenitic stainless steel with excellent high temperature properties is designed to enable the construction of boilers for next-generation power stations.

Sandvik Sanicro 25 is a new material for use in the high-efficiency pulverised coal fired steam boilers that will be used in the next generation of power stations The operational capabilities of Sandvik Sanicro 25, together with the new technology, mean that boiler temperatures can be increased significantly over traditional power stations

This allows an increase in operational efficiency of up to 50% or more (compared with today's 35-45%).

The ability to run at higher temperatures and pressures increases efficiency and as a result has a significant effect in reducing carbon dioxide emissions per kilowatt of electricity produced.

An austenitic stainless steel with excellent high temperature properties Sandvik Sanicro 25 combines high creep strength, oxidation resistance, structural stability and good fabrication capability.

Sandvik Sanicro 25, in tube form, can be used in material temperatures up to around 700C.

Thanks to its excellent resistance in a coal ash environment, it is ideal for use in reheaters and superheaters.

Sandvik Sanicro 25 is the result of extensive development work together with leading power interactors to develop the next generation of coal fired steam boilers for high efficiency power stations.

The material is already undergoing trials with leading energy companies in existing power stations.

It has also been the subject of extensive trials within Sandvik as well as at external labs, including creep testing to over 40kh.

"The introduction of this new material is the result of many years' research and development".

"Throughout the development of Sandvik Sanicro 25 we have worked closely with interested parties involved in the European power generation market".

"Considerable interest has already been shown in Sandvik Sanicro 25 and it is a promising candidate for new high efficiency plants", says Urban Forsberg, Product Manager for Boiler Tubing at Sandvik.
